More on Gender Roles

If you have a minute, I highly recommend this article about Harvey C. Mansfield's book, Manliness. Read it with a sense of humor and reserve judgment till you get to the end; close scrutiny may invite premature outrage. I don't think he means to be taken so dead-seriously as some take him. He's just tossing out some ideas, and I don't think they're all bad ones. Certainly not ones all of us haven't entertained once or twice.

I'm not even going to go there. And I refuse to be baited. If anyone's interested, they can check all the previous discussion out at http://monicaraab.blogspot.com/2006/03/pig.html

I must add though, that this review is substantially different from the one I posted. This one at least has something substantive to say about his content, while the other simply opined obnoxiously. While her review still makes me roll my eyes and expect to be disgusted with his book, it doesn't inspire the same vitriol that the op-ed piece did.

Becca,

Just jumping over to your blog to comment on your comment on my blog.

By saying I wasn't challenging the Gospel of Judas's "authenticity", I only meant that I wasn't denying it was an ancient document written in the 3rd century or so. I haven't read anything to indicate it's a recent forgery like, say, the George W. Bush National Guard "memos" that got Dan Rather in trouble. I certainly didn't mean to imply that it was actually written by Judas or a source of any theological truth.

Generally, I'm influenced by and agree with Albert Mohler's analysis. See this page: http://www.crosswalk.com/news/weblogs/mohler/1387259.html?view=print

(note, you'll have to view that blog post on the main page of this blog, not the "post comments" page)

My invite from Monica's blog remains: I hope y'all will hop on over and comment on my blog. I'd love to hear different opinions.

Oh, and just to make this relevant to the post at hand: Um, respecting differences in genders = good. Sexism = bad. The line between those two = up for debate.
